Five Great Films
Here's a post I've wanted to do for a while. Here are five old but great films that you've probably never heard of. All links are to The Internet Movie Database.
- Harvey I list this film first because it was my father's favorite movie. Elmer Dowd's best friend, Harvey, is an invisible six foot rabbit. The main conceit of this film is that Jimmy Stewart's character is calm, kind and rational, while everyone around him is flustered by his delusion.
- The Wrong Box This little known British comedy is hilarious. A classic comedy of mix ups, zany characters, and chase scenes.
- A Big Hand for the Little Lady A reformed gambler on his way to a new life stumbles into town on the day of the big poker game. He bets the mortgage money and leaves his wife to fight for their future on one poker hand.
- Lonely Are the Brave This film may seem a little dated, but only because it was the model for all the big action films, starting with Rambo. The last free spirit of the West gets himself thrown into prison to help break his friend out. His friend won't go, so he breaks out himself, chased by the law. It's a powerful movie with a powerful ending.
- Pretty Poison A young man pretends to be a secret agent to impress his girl friend. She takes him all too seriously. Another great but obscure film.
